The Personnel Division coordinates services and programs which assist all city departments in recruiting and maintaining a qualified and diverse workforce, and provides employment-related services to the City's 200+ employees and to job applicants.
The best way to keep current with job openings is to click on NOTIFY ME BY EMAIL in the column to your left. After filling out your email address and making sure the Employment Opportunities box is checked, you will be notified by email when job opportunities are posted.
Functions performed by the Personnel Department include:
- Employee recruitment, assessment, selection and orientation.
- Classification and compensation, including development and maintenance of job descriptions and salary schedules.
- Employee relations, including labor negotiations with five organized bargaining units and a non-represented management/confidential group.
- Maintenance of employee personnel records, confidential background and psychological evaluations.
- Processing and maintenance of Worker’s Compensation, Occupational Health and Safety and Drug Free Transportation Alliance records.

Information is either contained on the web page or can be retrieved in a PDF document. We strive to keep this information as current as possible to benefit our employees and all who visit our website.
Union Contracts & Salaries
The City of Ashland has five unions and one non-represented group. The five current contracts and the Management/Confidential Resolution are listed under the column to the left. You can view each by clicking on the specific title. Each document is in PDF format and is available by clicking on the title in the middle of the screen.
Under the specific contracts in the left column, salary schedules are listed with their corresponding effective years. Click on the year you would like to view and then click on the title in the middle of the screen. Again, the salary schedules are in PDF format.
Benefits
City of Ashland employee benefits are also listed under the column to the left. Click on the individual benefit to find more information, employee forms that need to be submitted to Personnel in order to use the benefit (i.e. Computer Loan Program and Wellness Reimbursement Form) and/or view the current benefit booklets.
Job Descriptions
Job descriptions are listed under individual departments. Also under each respective department is a position list in PDF format. This document lists each position budgeted in the department, which contract the position falls under, and the number of employees holding each position.
If information is needed about a particular position and the department is known, click on the department and scroll down to the position for the job description. Click on position lists first if the department in unknown. Keep in mind the City of Ashland has, for example, Administrative Assistants in more than one department. Descriptions of this job title will differ with each department and are dependent upon the skills needed to implement the particular duties.
Living Wage
The Living Wage Ordinance was adopted on September 4, 2001. Click on LIVING WAGE to find out more information. Also, notices for each year with the actual wage amount are in PDF format and can be viewed individually.

City Employment Application
Although the City of Ashland does not accept applications for positions not currently being recruited, the most up to date application in PDF format can be downloaded at any time. We do not currently have on-line application acceptance.
Workers' Compensation
If a City of Ashland employee is injured on the job, there are necessary steps that must be taken under City and State regulations. Forms and explanations can be downloaded by clicking on the correct title on the left and then downloading the individual PDF documents.
