 [ Commendation ]

COMMENDATION

On December 18th 2001 at approximately 2244 hours, units from the Ashland Fire Department and Jackson County Fire District #5 were dispatched to 1085 Elkader Street on a report of a structure fire. The initial call came in as there being smoke inside the structure. This was almost immediately upgraded to flames being seen coming out of a bedroom window. Officer Camp and Officer Baines also responded to the call. Because of the remote location and limited access to the residence, the police units arrived on scene prior to the fire department.

Officer Camp and Officer Baines retrieved the fire extinguisher from their police vehicle and entered the burning room, extinguishing the fire. Because of their fast response and quick actions there is no doubt that they prevented this situation from becoming, as the fire department put it, "a disaster". Both Officer Camp and OfficerBaines are to be commended for their actions.
