PROC Child Abuse
PROCLAMATION
| • |
Child abuse is a community problem and finding solutions depends on involvement among people throughout the community. |
| • |
Statistics of children who are abused and neglected increase each year, and at any one time in Oregon there are approximately 7,069 children in the state's care due to abuse and neglect issues. |
| • |
Effective child abuse prevention programs succeed because of partnerships created among social service agencies, schools, religious organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the business community. |
| • |
Youth-serving prevention programs offer positive alternatives for young people and encourage youth to develop strong ties to their community. |
| • |
All citizens should become more aware of child abuse and its prevention within the community and become involved in supporting parents to raise their children in a safe, nurturing environment. |
| • |
It is the responsibility of all citizens to know and respond to the warning signs of child abuse and neglect by contacting local or state officials. |
NOW THEREFORE, I, John W. Morrison, Mayor of Ashland, hereby proclaim April 2005 as
"CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION AND AWARENESS MONTH"
in Ashland, and call upon all citizens, community agencies, religious organizations, medical facilities and businesses to increase their participation and efforts to prevent child abuse, thereby strengthening the community in which we live.
Dated this 19th day of April, 2005.
Barbara Christensen, City Recorder John W. Morrison, Mayor
