Council Communication
Title: Request to consider a maximum gross floor area ordinance for residences
Dept: Administration
Date: March 19, 2002
Submitted By: Greg Scoles, City Administrator
Reviewed By: Greg Scoles, City Administrator

Synopsis: George Kramer has submitted a letter with attached opinion which requests that the council support the formation of an ordinance to limit building size in historic residential neighborhoods.
Recommendation: This information is provided for information only. However, should the council desire to consider an ordinance of this type then it should be forwarded to the Planning Commission for recommendation.
Fiscal Impact: There is no fiscal impact anticipated with the adoption of an ordinance of this nature.
Background: On February 26th the Historic and Planning Commissions held a joint study session and discussed this issue. At the conclusion of the study session, it was clear that there was no consensus on this for developing limitations of this type. However, staff did indicate at the meeting that this was not a priority item but would provide the commissions of examples of ordinances of this type for their information.
