City of Ashland, Oregon / Electric / Environmental Concerns

Environmental Concerns

The city Electric Department over the years has been very concerned with the environment. We no longer use penta-treated fir poles we use cedar poles instead, with out any penta.

We also have gone through our entire system and removed any transformers or switches that had pcb oil in them and replaced them with transformers with safe environmental friendly oil.

We have areas in town where there is a large population of squirrels. In these areas we try to put guards on our transformers to keep the squirrels from electrocuting themselves.

Our tree trimming program is set up so we can train the trees to grow around our line, as much as possible. We try not to just go in and wildly cut the top out of the trees, with no concern for the trees well being.
