Request for confirmation of Michael W. Franell as City Attorney |
June 29, 2004 City Council Meeting
First, I wish to thank the entire City Council for participating as the interview
panel for the four finalists for the position of City Attorney. The
process we used for screening candidates was both thorough and professional,
and I am pleased to be able to recommend confirmation of Michael Franell
as our next City Attorney.
Since each of you have already received a copy of his resume, I will not
reiterate his qualifications here. In summary, Michael Franell brings
to us 13 years of experience in government law and in Oregon municipal law.
Mike joined the City of Ashland as Assistant City Attorney in October,
2003.
Mike will assume the duties of City Attorney on July 1, 2004, at an annual
salary of $82,884, which is within the range established for the position.
City Administrator Gino Grimaldi negotiated other terms and conditions
of the employment of the City Attorney under my direction.
At this time the public is afforded the opportunity to comment.
In accordance with the City Charter, Article XIII, I therefore request you
confirmation of my appointment of Michael Franell as City Attorney effective
July 1, 2004.
