Outdoor Fireplace Specifics

Acceptable appliances include chimineas with a spark arrestor on the flue and a screen over the fire box or an outdoor fire place which has a solid top with side loading doors/screens for wood. A spark arrestor can be added to a chimney providing it meets the following criteria based on the Oregon Structural Specialty Code:

The screen is made of 19 gage galvanized steel or 24 gage stainless steel.
Screen grid is no greater than ½” openings and no less than 3/8” opening.

Unacceptable fireplaces include those for which the lid or screen must be removed in order to place wood on the fire or those which have no lid or screen.
