| Synopsis: |
The Oregon Department of Transportation has been
working with City staff on a signal replacement project within the downtown
core. City staff has been coordinating this work with the addition of crosswalk
bumpouts and other pedestrian safety items. Staff and ODOT will be available
to discuss the signal project and construction timeframes. |
| Recommendation: |
This item is for Council information only. No action
is required. |
| Fiscal Impact: |
There are no fiscal impacts to the City as a direct
result of this project. The City has entered into a separate agreement for
the maintenance an operation of all signals through Ashland. |
| Background: |
The Oregon Department of Transportation is currently
assembling plans and specifications for the Helman 2nd Street Signal
Project. This project installs five traffic signals on Highway 99 (N. Main
Street / Lithia Way / Siskiyou Blvd.) at the intersections of Helman, Pioneer
and 2nd Streets. In a separate action, Council is scheduled to approve two
easements as a result of the pole and control locations.
In addition to the signals, City staff has a contract with Hammond
Engineering to design the curb bumpouts and pedestrian improvements at several
locations so that work can be done in conjunction with the ODOT signal work.
New curb bumpouts (extensions) are being designed for the intersections of
Pioneer and Lithia Way, and 2nd Street / 'C' Street and Lithia Way. In addition
to these bumpouts, staff and Hammond Engineer are also designing bumpouts
at N. Main and Water Streets, E. Main and Oak Streets, East Main and First
Streets, and Lithia Way and Oak Street.
The project is scheduled to begin in the spring and be completed by
November 2003. |
