COVID Rent Relief Resources Available
Tenants may qualify for help with rent, utilities and more, and should seek help

The statewide eviction moratorium passed by the Oregon Legislature is set to expire on September 30. On October 1 tenants may face eviction.

Residential tenants who have missed payments or who anticipate missing payments may qualify for help with rent, utilities, and more and should seek help right away. Due to the large number of requests, there may be a waiting period to qualify for and/or get assistance.

In response to COVID-related job losses, the ban on evictions prevents landlords from giving a notice of termination for nonpayment of rent or fees due between April 1 and September 30; from giving a notice of termination without cause; from reporting unpaid rent or fees to credit agencies; or charging fees for late rent. Tenants struggling to pay rent should inform their landlord in writing and save a copy.

After the eviction moratorium ends on October 1, renters have until March 31, 2021 to catch up on any rent payments missed between April and September 2020. Landlords can give notices of termination or file evictions for other reasons during and after the moratorium.
