Arrest Made in Car Break-in Crime Spree
On 04/30/17, Ashland Detectives arrested Tyler Sweet (25) on several charges related to a recent string of car break-ins. The break-ins were steadily reported over the last 25 days prompting the Police Department to step up both uniformed and undercover operations.
At about 3:15am, an APD Patrol Sergeant noticed gardening equipment on a sidewalk in a residential area. This prompted the Sergeant to walk the street and investigate further. While walking the area, a vehicle was heard speeding away. Another APD Officer responding to assist saw the vehicle and turned around to initiate a car stop. By the time the officer turned his car around, the suspect vehicle was gone. The car was later found dumped in a nearby parking lot.
About 30 minutes later, Tyler Sweet (25) called dispatch to report his vehicle as stolen and met with officers a short distance from the dumped vehicle. Sweets stolen vehicle story was quickly refuted and he was later taken to the Police Department for additional questioning. Sweet cooperated with detectives and was charged with multiple crimes including Theft 1, Unauthorized Entry into a Motor Vehicle and Conspiracy. Detectives also executed a search warrant on Sweets vehicle, locating several items of stolen property from other car break-ins.
Detectives have identified Arthur Summers (35) as the other male in the vehicle and believe he partnered with Sweet to commit the thefts.
If you know of Summerís whereabouts you are asked to contact the APD. Furthermore, if anyone has additional information about this ongoing investigation, you are encouraged to call the Ashland Police Department at 541.482.5211.
