Ashland Police Announces Three New Initiatives
The Ashland Police Department has launched two new initiatives, with one more to be enacted shortly. Each of these initiatives is meant to further community relationships and foster communication, engagement, accountability and transparency.
Earlier today a "Police Feedback" feature was added to the department's webpage (ashalnd.or.us/police). This button allows any member of the community to register either a compliment or a concern regarding the actions of the department. The APD believes in building and maintaining community relationships, and we see this feature as one more way our residents can stay connected to the police department.
The department has also launched a security camera registration initiative similar to those in other communities . Through this program any member of the community can register the presence of a security camera system, whether it is on a business or a residence. This initiative does not give the department access to the camera system, only the knowledge that it is there . This will give the department one more tool to find evidence of crimes, allowing us to better serve the city and its residents.
Lastly, later this month the department will publish the Ashland Police Department Policy Manual on the department's webpage. This manual serves as the guide for everything the department does. Making it available to the public will help demonstrate our openness in our operations, and will help the community members understand how the department works.
The Ashland Police Department will continue to look for ways to strengthen its relationships and lines of communication with all members of the community.
