Fatal single vehicle crash and arrest for manslaughter
February 22, 2016
APD Case #16-480
On February 22, 2016 at approximately 1:15 a.m. officers from the Ashland Police Department responded to the intersection of Siskiyou BL and Walker Av for a single motor vehicle crash.
The crash investigation indicated that a single vehicle was inbound on Siskiyou BL at a high rate of speed. The vehicle collided with a utility pole, causing it to further lose control. One of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, and another received no, or non-serious injuries.
The Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) was called in to investigate, as was a drug recognition expert. Brandon Morlok, 21 years old, of Bainbridge Island Washington was subsequently arrested for manslaughter 1, manslaughter 2, and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
The deceased passenger, who had been riding in the back of the vehicle, has been identified as Ryan Bowker, 18 years old and from Port Orchard Washington.
The Ashland Police Department offers its condolences to Ryan Bowker’s family. This tragic incident reminds us, yet again, of the dangers of driving under the influence.
