CHECK FORGERY ALERT
The Ashland Police Department would like to notify residents about a recent theft of personal checks from the utility billing drop box located in the Shop’n Kart parking lot – 2268 Ashland Street. To date, four Ashland residents reported the theft of their utility bill payment. If you deposited a utility bill payment into this drop box during the month of December, you are urged to contact your respective financial institution regarding possible fraudulent activity. Two of the four customers reported fraudulent activity on their personal banking accounts since the theft. In an effort to prevent additional thefts and fraudulent activity, the utility billing drop box has been removed from this location.
If anyone has information about this incident, or your utility payment was stolen from this location, you are encouraged to call the Ashland Police Department at 541.482.5211. You can also call the anonymous tip line at 541.552.2333 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Additionally, if someone is writing bad checks against your account, contact your financial institution immediately and ask them to stop the payment on the stolen check and close your account.
