Early this morning, a water main near the intersection of Hersey and Water Streets broke.
Some households downstream from the break may discover discolored water in their taps. When there is a break in the system the water moves through the pipes at a different speed and direction and will sometimes pick up color from mineral deposits commonly found in municipal water systems. It is not harmful but not aesthetically pleasing.
The break has been isolated and is being repaired. Crews are flushing the system and the discolored water will dissipate after a few hours.
The only water service outage is to Ashland Creek Park which sustained minor landscaping damage.
