On Thursday, December 10, 2015 winterization of Ashland’s Daniel Meyer Pool bathhouse was declared complete by City of Ashland building officials, allowing swim groups in the Ashland community to use the outdoor pool during the off-season.
The Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission adopted two specifically related goals for the 2015-2017 biennium toward increasing pool access for Ashland community members and partners. The highest ranked APRC goal was to:
Facilitate a partnership between APRC and a community partner, such as the Ashland Family YMCA, SOU or Ashland School District, to build a new competition-style year-round indoor swimming pool for the community.
The second related APRC goal was to:
Explore options for cooperation between community partners, such as Ashland School District and APRC, to share services and facilities.
At a special meeting on September 8, 2015, the Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Ashland School District, Phoenix/Talent School District and Rogue Valley Masters Swimmers to allow for outdoor swimming at the Daniel Meyer Pool between November and February. One condition was for APRC to winterize the Daniel Meyer Pool building, a project that is now complete.
“We are excited to offer this service to our community partners to ensure that local swim programs continue to thrive. APRC is still working toward our first goal which is to find a permanent indoor pool, but we think the Daniel Meyer Pool is a good interim step to take in that process,” stated APRC Director, Michael A. Black.
