Heavy Rains Cause Wastewater Treatment Sewage Spill
Approximately 200,000 gallons of untreated and partially treated wastewater were released at a couple of locations into Ashland Creek. This was due to today’s heavy rainfall which exceeded 3 inches.
This extremely heavy rain caused the amount of wastewater entering the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) to exceed its capacity.  The wastewater treatment plant has a designed capacity of 8.8 million gallons per day and today the WWTP has been receiving waste water at a rate in excess of 10 million gallons per day.
At this time, the City of Ashland is advising all people in the area of Ashland Creek to avoid contact with this water.
