September is National Preparedness Month and what better time to consider taking valuable steps to be prepared for an emergency than now. You can better prepare yourself and your family by taking a few thoughtful steps to ensure added peace of mind and safety. This week Ashland Fire & Rescue encourages you to build an emergency supply kit.
Most individuals do not consider the need for an emergency supply kit, because disasters happen infrequently, but you will be much better prepared for recovery if you posses a properly built kit. A disaster supply kit is simply a collection of basic items your household may need in the event of an emergency assembled in one location.
When emergencies happen you will want to have everything you need close at hand for quick recovery. Here are some steps you can take BEFORE a disaster happens:
- Prepare a kit that fits the needs of all hazards with all the recommended items.
- Identify a location to store your kit that will be easily accessible when needed.
- Consider important documentation including home owners / renters insurance information, copies of birth certificates, credit card information, and other relevant documentation that could be critical.
Save the date for the Ashland Is Ready event – November 1, 2014 to obtain a kit to use in your car or to supplement your at home kit.
