Lightning Storms Forecasted to Continue

Recent lightning has sparked numerous fires in our area, including in the Ashland Watershed. Oregon Department of Forestry and U.S. Forest Service crews are staffing fires in the watershed area including visible fires on Wagner Peak and adjacent areas. Helicopter rapellers attacked two fires in the watershed. As temperatures increase during the day there are likely to be more small fires due to lightning over the past two days and anything more through this evening. We urge residents to only call in smoke or fires in their immediate area and especially any close to structures, so as not to overwhelm 911 dispatchers with distant fires that are already being staffed. Air reconnaissance is taking place through the day. Updates on the regional situation can be found at www.swofire.com.
