Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Calle Guanajuato

The Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 11, at 5:30 p.m. on the Calle Guanajuato near the Ashland Creek Bridge.
Recent renovations of the Calle will be celebrated that evening with assistance from the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. “Ashland Parks and Recreation is proud of the Calle Project and looks forward to celebrating this accomplishment with the community,” said Ashland Parks and Recreation Director Don Robertson.
The Calle Guanajuato, a pathway adjacent to Ashland Creek and located at 21 Winburn Way, is situated behind shops and restaurants in Ashland’s downtown Plaza. The aging Calle surface was crumbling and posed safety hazards. The old concrete was removed, allowing for replacing or upgrading underground utilities while improving pedestrian safety and beautifying this unique corridor in downtown Ashland. “The decorative concrete complements the meandering ‘walkway’ of colorful concrete pavers,” stated Ashland Parks and Recreation Superintendent Rachel Dials.
The Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission and Parks staff would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all who provided support and assistance with this valuable project: City of Ashland Planning, Engineering, Water, Electric and Finance Departments; Avista; OBEC and KOGAP; and a special thanks to property owners, business owners and the Lithia Artisans Market for their patience and support.
Invitations to the ceremony have been sent to members of the Ashland Parks and Recreation Commission, Ashland Parks Foundation, Ashland City Council and Mayor, Citizens’ Budget Committee, Parks and City staff, KOGAP Inc, Calle Guanajuato property and business owners, Historic Commission and many others.
This free event is open to the public. Enjoy live entertainment from Sweet Talk, performing traditional Mexican songs; dance performances by Ballet Folklorico Ritmo Alegre, a traditional, youth Mexican folk dance troupe; and samplings from some of your favorite Calle restaurants.
