Fire Hydrant Testing Thursday, January 23, 2014
On Thursday, January 23, 2014 Ashland Fire and Rescue along with the Ashland Water Department will be conducting a fire hydrant flow test near 229 W. Hersey Street. The test is scheduled to begin at 1:45 PM. The purpose of the water release is to measure the speed and the volume of water for the hydrant. This information is critical for the Fire Department should they need to connect to the hydrants.
During the test, nearby users may see a change in water color. The discoloration is caused by the disturbance of small mineral deposits that can build up over time in the city water distribution system. The mineral deposits are harmless and the color usually clears within a few moments of running the tap.
If the tap water does not clear, or for more information, please call the City of Ashland Water Department at 541-488-5353.
