Jackie Bachman
City Councilor

Jackie Bachman Jackie Bachman was appointed to the Ashland City Council in March, 2018.

She grew up in a family dedicated to community service in Riverside, California, and attended UCLA where she completed her B.A. in Psychology and obtained her Standard Elementary Teaching Credential. She also met her husband, Jim, there, and together they have built a wonderful life, with their two sons, for the last 43 years.

Jackie completed her M.A. in Special Education at California State University at Los Angeles and her K-12 Administrative Services Credential in Public Education at San Diego State University. She spent the next 36 years serving in public education as a teacher, site administrator, and District Director of Special Education Services.

In the course of her career, Jackie has been responsible for the supervision and recruitment of hundreds of staff members. She also oversaw a budget of $10 million and was responsible for ensuring that the rights of individuals with disabilities were protected under her care and supervision as a teacher and district administrator. This necessitated a creative and practical approach to budgeting, building innovative programs that met the current student needs and saved the district money in the future.

Jackie has always been involved in community service, from the time she volunteered at the Riverside School for the Deaf as a middle school student, to serving as Director of Service for the Rotary Club while principal of a school for students with severe disabilities. A goal throughout her life has been to improve the quality of life for others, by working on accessibility issues, environmental challenges, inclusion, and fiscal sustainability.

Jackie and her husband, Jim, moved to the Ashland Railroad District in February, 2015, and are both extremely proud to be a part of this incredible community. Jackie has been an active participant in the Food Project, the Olli Life Long Learning Program, and the Ashland Senior Services Program. She served as the Chair for the Ad Hoc Senior Program Advisory Committee and also served on the Housing and Human Services Commission.

Jackie is looking forward to helping our outstanding Ashland community maintain its cultural and historical traditions while ensuring a future of fiscal and environmental sustainability, and accessibility, through constructive engagement.
