Mike Morris was elected to the city council in 2010.
A sixth generation Ashlander, Mike was raised in Ashland, where his parents still live. After Graduating from Ashland High School in 1973, he went on to Southern Oregon State College and Oregon Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He spent 16 years as an Engineer for the Boeing Company. In addition, he started a small woodworking business in 1991 building cabinets and furniture.
Returning to Ashland in 1993, Mike worked as an engineer for the family business, Oak Street Tank & Steel, working on product certifications for Underwriters Labs and other design work. He continued woodworking and started Morris Construction, building cabinets in his spare time. In 1997, cabinetry and remodeling became a full time occupation and engineering only on an as needed basis.
After seeing the effects of growth in the greater Seattle area, his interest grew in land use and transportation issues in Ashland and Mike became involved in several land use studies in Ashland. In 1997 Mike was appointed to the Ashland Planning Commission to fill a mid term vacancy. He was reappointed in 1999, 2003 and 2007 for a stay of over 13 years. Mike has also served on the Ashland Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is a graduate of the Ford Family Foundation Leadership program.
As a City Councilor, Mike will work with the other Councilors to protect what we love about Ashland and to provide for a future we can all enjoy. To further the protections for the watershed, ensure an adequate water supply and put in place a plan for the economic vitality of the city for the future.
