Selection Panel
The Selection Panel discussed the two concepts proposed by artist Gordon Huether for the Theater Corridor: Velocity and Giants.

The discussion focused on how the concepts met the project intent and how the concepts activate the space.

The panel chose Velocity and noted that it fills the entire length of the corridor, provides light for the full length of the corridor and is complex in its simplicity.  The panel had positive comments for the Giants but expressed concern that because the final “look” of the giants had not yet been determined by the artist they did not feel comfortable expending public dollars on the unknown.  Further they felt that Giants would provide pools of light in the corridor but not light the full length of the corridor and did not activate the space as well as Velocity.

The final vote was 6-1 in favor of Velocity.

Immediately following the Selection Panel discussion, the Public Art Commission voted to accept the choice of the Selection Panel and to forward its recommendation to the City Council.

The City Council will make the final decision at its regular business meeting on Tuesday, September 5.

Meeting adjourned at 10:30
