MINUTES FOR THE STUDY SESSION
ASHLAND CITY COUNCIL
April 9, 2012
Siskiyou Room, 51 Winburn Way

Mayor Stromberg called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m. in the Siskiyou Room.

Councilor Voisin, Silbiger, Morris, Lemhouse, and Slattery were present.  Councilor Chapman was absent.

  1. Discussion of City Council goals for FY 2013.

City Administrator Dave Kanner submitted a document of 2012-2013 City Council Goals without the items Council did not recall consensus and matched the remaining under Economy, Environment, Social Equity, Municipal Organization, and Infrastructure Goals.

Council discussed the 2012-2013 City Council Goals document, noted goals for Conservation and Sustainability and Social Equity were missing, that the items listed were not objectives nor were they measurable.  Other comments acknowledged the lack of having a formal goal setting session.  Council directed staff to extend the 2011-12 goals through 2012-13 as two-year goals with updates and modifications as needed.

Council went on to discuss changing the language regarding the ad hoc Homelessness Steering Committee (HSC), include quarterly reports from the Committee to Council and a Joint Study Session with Council for specific direction.

Also discussed was the need for a Councilor to inform and apprise the rest of Council when working on an item with the public.  The public could bring forward any proposal to Council but that did not ensure action.

Meeting adjourned at 6:43 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,
Dana Smith
Assistant to the City Recorder
