ASHLAND HISTORIC COMMISSION
Minutes
June 7, 2000
CALL TO ORDER
At 7:30 p.m., Chairperson Jim Lewis called the meeting to order at the Community Center. Members present were Terry Skibby, Jim Lewis, Dale Shostrom, Vava Bailey, Keith Chambers, Kay Maser, Jay Leighton and Joan Steele. Also present were Associate Planner Mark Knox, Secretary Sonja Akerman and City Council Liaison Cameron Hanson. Member Gary Foll was unable to attend the meeting.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chambers moved and Bailey seconded to approve the minutes of the May 3, 2000 meeting as submitted. The motion was unanimously passed.
PUBLIC HEARINGS
Planning Action 2000-067
Conditional Use Permit and Site Review
555 Scenic Drive
Ashland Community Hospital
Knox stated this action has been called up for a public hearing so it won't be heard until next month. Maser and Bailey stated it looked as though this was already existing. Knox responded the parking lot is already in use. A couple years ago, the Hospital received approval to build a medical office on the site. Excavation was started but problems arose which caused delays in the project. Since it may be a couple years before the office can be built, the hospital would like approval to use a portion of the lot for staff parking. The lot will be paved and the area will also be landscaped.
NEW BUSINESS
Robert Lombardi - 220 Fourth Street
Robert Lombardi presented plans to the Commission for a two-unit, two-story motel at 220 Fourth Street. He had submitted plans for a pre-application conference and when these went to the Review Board, the members had concerns. Therefore, Knox had invited Lombardi to attend the full Commission meeting. After discussing the design concerns, Lombardi agreed to incorporate some changes and submit the revised plans for the July meeting.
Resignation
Lewis informed the Commission that after 14 years as a member of the Historic Commission, he was submitting his resignation.
Orientation/Goal Setting Meeting
Knox informed the Commission he would like to have the orientation/goal setting meeting in July this year. Mid-July would work for most members. He would also like to combine this with a tour of the Ashland Springs Hotel, which is scheduled to open in August.
